Design of two portable offshore units (POUs) for a UK supplier of nitrogen-purged transport systems, intended for use in critical offshore environments.

Scope of Work

Concept & Definition

  • Concept development and configuration studies
  • Risk assessment
  • Load case definition in accordance with DNV 2.7-3, including:
    • 4-point and 2-point lifting
    • Forklift handling
    • Transport and set-down
    • Drop events

Structural Analysis & Verification

  • Four static FEA studies, each with six sub-models
  • Analytical calculations for:
    • Bolted joints
    • Pressure containment
    • Lifting sets and lifting points
  • Three dynamic FEA studies for drop assessment:
    • Modal analysis
    • Time-history response
    • Non-linear impact simulation

Detailed Engineering

  • Complete 3D CAD models
  • Manufacturing and general arrangement drawings
  • Handling documentation and O&M manual
  • Technical file for certification

Outcome

  • Shared primary structure across both POU variants
  • Interchangeable upper and lower sections for safe equipment change-out and storage
  • Full demonstration of compliance with DNV 2.7-3
